Retailers, landlords and lobby groups across the UK are taking on the fight to save our town’s High Street, in a bid to extend the UK’s retail sector and bring it back to glory.
With fantastic commercial property for sale available throughout the Thames Valley, including Marlow and High Wycombe, this is a great time to join the world of retail by snapping up a high street unit. By securing a retail premises now, you will be investing in both the future of your business and playing your part in improving our high street’s prospects for the better.
A select committee began to hear evidence from retailers, landlords and lobby groups on Tuesday (24th May 2013) in the battle to push the recovery of the retail sector further up the government’s agenda.
Included in the proposals to get the retail sector moving in the right direction is the rebalancing of in and out of town business rates and restructuring towns with the help of infrastructure funds, as well as suggestions to lower parking rates and rates on empty properties to be axed.
The Government and Councils throughout the UK can also work in partnership with both local retailers and shoppers, in order to restore the local High Street, something Waltham Forest Council have led the way in with Leyton’s High Street. Regeneration work was completed in Leyton’s High Street in a bid to execute a better shopping experience for retailers and shoppers alike. Waltham Forest Council have since rolled out similar projects, investing £9million in a further nine high streets throughout the borough.
The report of the committee’s suggestions is likely to be released in July 2013, and the Government will then have two months to respond to the report.« Back to News & Blog
